Cell phone – Do Not Disturb

To receive alerts when your phone is in “Do Not Disturb” mode (ie. In the middle of the night) you have to set CWS as an Emergency Bypass contact. 

On an iPhone:

  1. Create a new contact. Make the Company Name: CWS or Community Warning System
  2. Enter the ‘Work’ phone number: 925-655-0195
  3. Scroll down and press “Ringtone”.
  4. Select a loud, annoying ringtone like ‘Classic’ -> ‘Alarm’.
  5. At the top of the ringtone page swipe the “Emergency Bypass” button to green.
  6. Press “Done” 
  7. Scroll down and press “Text Tone”.
  8. Select a loud, annoying ringtone like ‘Classic’ -> ‘Alarm’.
  9. At the top of the text tone page swipe the “Emergency Bypass” button to green.
  10. Press “Done” 
  11. Press “Done” again
  12. Go to “Settings” -> “Notifications”. At the very bottom are Government Alerts. Make sure at least Emergency Alerts and Public Safety Alerts are set to ‘On’ (green).

On an Android device: (there are many versions of Android, yours may be slightly different)

  1. Create a new contact. Make the Company Name: CWS or Community Warning System
  2. Enter the ‘Work’ phone number: 925-655-0195
  3. Designate CWS (and Nixle) as favorite contacts by tapping the star within the contacts app. 
  4. Go to Settings, Notification OR Sound and Vibration
  5. Go to “Do Not Disturb”
  6. Allow Exceptions
  7. Custom to allow favorite contacts to bypass the Do Not Disturb block.
