On Saturday, 15 December 2018, Moraga-Orinda Fire District, Moraga Police, Orinda Police, Lamorinda CERT, Contra Costa Community Warning System and supporting agencies practiced evacuation of the 521 homes within Moraga Country Club that chose to participate in the exercise. Alerts were sent to over 376 residents and 68 volunteers. With only one access road available, over 115 carloads of residents participated in this 7:00 a.m. exercise and evacuated in about 15 minutes. Both lanes of Moraga Way were used for Northbound traffic. Over 65 CERTs were involved in the exercise including 42 CERT traffic monitors who aided Law Enforcement in keeping the traffic flow smooth and accident free. Two way traffic was restored to Moraga Way by 7:45 a.m., as planned. A Debrief session was held shortly after the exercise and an evaluation report will be produced before the next Evacuation Exercise, tentatively planned for next month.
