The Lamorinda communities hold many civic events every year. Most of these events have need of volunteers. Sometimes the volunteers staff a booth; sometimes they provide traffic or parking control. Whatever the need, the organizers turn to local civic groups for help. CERT is one of the groups that are increasingly being asked to help. With our training and our numbers we are in a position to help and to spread the word about CERT.
Saturday, April 6, 2013 the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will hold it’s annual open house at Station 45 in Orinda. We need to staff an informational table. Time slots are: 8-10 and 10-12. Register
The 5th Annual Moraga Cinco de Mayo Festival will be
held Sunday, May 5, 2013. We need a few volunteers
to handle traffic control. Register
Independence Day Dog Parade, Classic Car Show and general good fun at Moraga Commons will be
held Thursday, July 4, 2013. We need a few volunteers
to staff an information booth. Register
The 18th Annual Lafayette Art & Wine Festival, featuring art, wine, beer, music, and shopping, is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in downtown Lafayette. The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce has asked CERT to help with traffic control. We need to staff six short shifts with 6-8 people per shift. The times are:
Saturday, September 21: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
4:00 pm to 7:30 pm
Sunday, September 22: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm
1:00 pm to 3:30 pm
3:30 pm to 6:30 pm
We also are sharing a booth with the Lafayette Emergency Preparedness Commission. We need to have one or two CERTs in the booth all the time. Shift hours are the same as the parking hours above.
The Moraga Pear Festival will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 10am to 4pm. We need volunteers to staff a booth and tell people about the CERT program. Time slots are: 10-12; 12-2 and 2-4. Two CERTs per slot would be ideal. Register
Saturday, October 5, 2013 the Twin Canyon Girl Scout Camp is holding a hike-a-thon in Lafayette. They have requested parking control and first aid staffing for the day. We need to provide 5 traffic plus 1 first aid person for each 2 hour shift. Register
